Couple Makes Fake 999 Call to Foil Police Amid £250m Drug Bust
A couple attempted to derail a £250 million drug bust by making a fake 999 call reporting a fictitious kidnapping. Erin Lee and Michael Hardie made the bogus call in a bid to hinder police investigations into their drug ring. The couple’s scheme unraveled when seven more individuals were apprehended for their involvement in the drug syndicate during court proceedings held yesterday.
The illicit drug operation involved transporting drugs to a farm where they were repackaged before being distributed to couriers who transported them across the UK. The North West Regional Organised Crime Unit (NWROCU) spearheaded the comprehensive investigation centred on Deeside in Flintshire, Wales, leading to the seizure of a significant quantity of class A drugs under Operation Falcon.
Earlier this year, four individuals – Guy Remington, Luke Hirst, Morgan Towner, and Thomas Smith – were collectively handed a 55-year prison sentence as detectives successfully dismantled the drug gang. The group’s activities were brought to a halt when Remington was apprehended during the group’s final drug run to Europe.
During a police raid at the farm, Erin Lee and Michael Hardie, along with Erin’s sister Alesha Lee, were present. Following the raid, Erin and Michael made a false 999 call claiming they had been kidnapped at knifepoint on their way to a local bar. However, their ploy was quickly uncovered when officers discovered that the bar had been closed since 2016.
Subsequently, Erin Lee, Alesha Lee, Michael Hardie, and several other accomplices from Liverpool, South Yorkshire, and London were sentenced for their roles in the drug trafficking operation. The sentences ranged from suspended terms to several years in prison for charges of conspiracy to supply class A drugs and possession with intent to supply.
In light of these events, the arrests and convictions serve as a significant blow to organised crime and drug trafficking operations in the region.
