A Glasgow chef, Colin James Barron, passed away after suddenly collapsing at a recycling centre in a heartbreaking incident that has left his family shattered. The 44-year-old Colin, who hailed from Pollok, was taken to the hospital after collapsing at Shieldhall Recycling Centre. Medics at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital discovered that he had suffered a bleed to the main artery of his heart and placed him in an induced coma, as reported by Glasgow Live. Colin’s family, including his wife, parents, siblings, and cousins, rushed to his side as he was set to be transferred to Golden Jubilee in Clydebank for emergency surgery. Unfortunately, Colin was pronounced dead around 4 pm.
In the wake of Colin’s sudden death, his cousin, Nicola O’Doherty, set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for Colin’s funeral and to ease the financial burden on his wife, who has three children, especially during the approaching Christmas season. Describing the family’s heartbreak, Nicola expressed how close they were to Colin and how well-loved he was by everyone. She recalled Colin as having a big heart and being cherished by many. Colin, who had appeared as a chef on STV’s Live at Five, had married Lynn in 2023 and had a close relationship with her children, Molly, Erin, and Harry.
Nicola shared that Colin had recently found love with Lynn and was just beginning to enjoy life again, making his sudden passing all the more distressing for the family. Acknowledging Colin’s passion for sports cars, the family has arranged for a convoy to follow his hearse during his funeral on December 4. The procession will start from Colin’s home in Pollok, passing by St. James Church where he tied the knot, before heading to Hurlet Crematorium and finally to his burial at St. Conval’s Cemetery.
