South Lanarkshire Council’s executive has given the green light to the Stewartfield Way Capacity Enhancement project in East Kilbride, marking a significant development for the vital road project. The project aims to improve traffic flow, enhance public transport, and promote low carbon vehicle emissions in the area.
Despite some concerns raised by an SNP councillor, the executive approved the outline business case for the project, along with the proposed next steps. It was also agreed that grant funding would be sought to cover preliminary costs and develop full business cases for the project and associated sub-projects.
A key aspect of the scheme involves converting the existing roundabouts at Nerston and Mavor junctions into three and four-way traffic signal controlled junctions.
