After my son died he whispered a secret code – it unlocked the ultimate love note

A poignant story has emerged about a son’s final gift to his family before passing away. Jay Kennedy, a 20-year-old diagnosed with an incurable high-grade astrocytoma, a type of brain tumour, in 2020, left behind a touching message for his mother after his death.

In the days leading up to his passing, Jay whispered a series of numbers to his mother, Dawn. She later discovered that these numbers were a code to unlock a message on Jay’s mobile phone. The message, described by Dawn as a “love note from heaven,” contained journal entries that Jay had been writing since learning about his terminal prognosis.

Despite undergoing multiple surgeries, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, Jay’s condition continued to deteriorate. In his final week, he made sure his mother knew the password to unlock his phone, where she found his heartfelt words of reassurance and love for his family.

Dawn, touched by her son’s thoughtfulness, shared some of Jay’s journal entries to raise awareness about brain cancer and to give Jay a voice even after his passing. Jay’s words have served as a source of strength and inspiration for Dawn, her husband, and their other son, Blair, as they navigate life without Jay.

Since his death, the family has raised over £100k for various charities, including Brain Tumour Research. Dawn hopes that by sharing Jay’s story, they can bring attention to the impact of brain tumours and the importance of supporting research efforts to find a cure.

This heartwarming tribute from Jay to his family showcases his love, resilience, and selflessness in the face of his illness. Despite his own struggles, Jay’s focus remained on comforting and reassuring his loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of hope and inspiration.
