Ian kicked off the event by recalling how the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand by a Serbian student sparked the First World War. He delved into the history of Serbia from 1866, highlighting the country’s issuance of its first stamps, including those featuring Prince Michael and King Peter I. The audience was particularly impressed by the set of stamps commemorating King Peter I’s coronation, which featured a unique design element that revealed King Alexander’s face when the stamp was inverted.
Moving on to Derek’s display, he presented various historic postcards depicting different events of World War I. These postcards showcased battles involving ships like the German Konisberg and depicted British troops and armory attempting to land in Tanga.
