Police make fresh appeal for missing Stornoway teen

Police in Stornoway have issued a fresh appeal for information regarding the disappearance of 16-year-old Aleksandr Benga. The teenager was last seen at approximately 8.45 am on Monday, November 18 near the water wheel within the Lewis Castle grounds. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information or dash-cam footage to come forward as they work to track his movements.

Aleksandr is described as 6ft 2ins tall, slim build, with short brown hair. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a beige jumper and black jeans, with a yellow beanie hat in his possession. Inspector David Hall expressed deep concern for Aleksandr, especially given the recent cold weather conditions. Extensive search efforts have been ongoing in and around the Stornoway area, with police dogs and a mountain rescue team aiding in the search. Despite these efforts and previous appeals, Aleksandr has yet to be located, leaving his family and friends distressed and anxious.

CCTV footage has been reviewed, but the exact route Aleksandr took after leaving the water wheel on the morning of November 18 remains unknown. Police are specifically requesting that any drivers with dashcams who were in the areas of A859 between Willowglen Road, Stornoway and Cameron Terrace, Lochs, or Pentland Road between 8.45 am and 12 pm on November 18, to contact them to assist in establishing Aleksandr’s movements.

Anyone with information on Aleksandr’s whereabouts is urged to contact Police Scotland at 101 as soon as possible, quoting incident 0803 of November 18, 2024.
