Dalbeattie High School receive Silver UNICEF UK Right Respecting School Award

Dalbeattie High School in Scotland has been honoured with the prestigious Silver UNICEF UK Right Respecting School Award. The school community collaborated to gather evidence towards three key outcomes: teaching and learning about rights, teaching and learning through rights, and being ambassadors for the rights of others. The evidence submitted included initiatives such as creating a new school vision, values, and aims, designing a school charter, embedding pupil voice, running a daily breakfast club by seniors, offering a range of extracurricular opportunities, organizing various trips, celebration evenings, lessons, and assemblies, among others.

A group of S1-S6 pupils at Dalbeattie High School had the opportunity to meet with assessors and share their experiences of the journey that began in September 2021. The assessors commended the students as “knowledgeable, mature, articulate, and a lovely group to speak to,” deeming the overall experience very positive. Feedback from the assessors highlighted the school for its strong relationships, robust pupil voice, and numerous positive experiences for all young people. The assessors’ report noted the school’s effort to ensure everyone feels included and valued, as well as providing ample opportunities for pupils to contribute to leadership groups.
