Four men were arrested on Monday in Lanarkshire on suspicion of drink and drug driving offences. Police officers conducted four separate vehicle stops in the county throughout the day. At around 2.40pm on Loch Brora Crescent in Coatbridge, a routine stop was carried out on a vehicle where the driver was noted to “smell strongly of cannabis.” A 38-year-old man was arrested, and after a drug swipe test, he allegedly tested positive for cannabis. He was taken to a police office for blood samples and later released pending lab results.
Later in the day, around 3.30pm, officers responded to reports of a car “swerving all over the road” on Tryst Road in Cumbernauld. A 43-year-old man was arrested after being found with accident damage on his vehicle. He was also taken to a police office for blood samples before being released pending lab results.
In a separate incident at about 6.15pm on Airdrie Road, another vehicle was stopped by police due to the smell of cannabis. A 30-year-old man was arrested after testing positive for cannabis via a drug swipe test. Similar to the previous cases, he was taken to a police office for blood samples and later released pending lab results.
Later that evening, around 10.25pm, police responded to a possible drug deal on Gartsherrie Road in Coatbridge involving a van and a pedestrian. A 32-year-old man was arrested after a small bag containing white powder, which tested positive for cocaine, was found in the van. Following a drug swipe test that indicated positive for cocaine and cannabis, he was taken to a nearby police station for blood samples and released pending lab results.
