A 21-year-old driver is currently in the hospital after a serious crash involving a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) on the M8 near Coatbridge. The incident occurred around 12.55am on Tuesday on the westbound carriageway close to junction 7. The collision involved a Corsa and the HGV. The driver of the Corsa, aged 21, was transported to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for medical treatment. Thankfully, the 59-year-old driver of the HGV was unharmed.
Following the crash, the road was closed until approximately 6.45am for investigations to take place. Police are now seeking any dash cam footage that may have captured the incident. Sergeant Elaine Scott of the Road Policing Unit has urged anyone with information to come forward. She stated, “Our investigation into this serious crash continues and I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened, or has relevant dash cam footage, to please get in touch.” Witnesses are encouraged to contact Police Scotland by dialling 101 and quoting reference number 0116 from November 26, 2024.
