A Scottish father, Abibo Lima, has finally been reunited with his two daughters after being left homeless due to the breakdown of his marriage. Abibo, aged 41, moved to Scotland from Portugal in 2019 with his partner and children in hopes of creating a better life together. However, as time passed, their relationship faced challenges, leading to their separation.
Initially seeking counselling through Govan HELP, their relationship deteriorated, leaving Abibo without a home. He shared, “I have two daughters, aged 11 and eight. I hadn’t seen them in eight months. It was very hard. I felt angry that I couldn’t see my daughters, anxious about my future, and I was struggling to manage my diabetes.”
In a fortunate turn of events, a Glasgow-based charity, Govan HELP, extended a helping hand to Abibo. With their support, he was able to secure suitable accommodation for himself and his daughters. Abibo expressed his gratitude, stating, “Amanda at Govan HELP supported me with everything I needed to get back on track.”
Through Govan HELP’s assistance, Abibo was able to not only find a new home but also reunite with his daughters. The emotional reunion was marked by a surprise party at his new residence, where they bonded over games and shared joyful moments. Abibo and his daughters now participate in family sessions organised by the charity, fostering a stronger bond between them.
Reflecting on his journey, Abibo emphasised the vital role Govan HELP played in his life, crediting them for their unwavering support and guidance. The charity, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, aims to empower families through various programmes including family support and counselling. Recently awarded a £133,000 grant, the charity continues to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals and communities.
