Stirling supermarket denies contaminated fuel claim over van breakdown

A Stirling supermarket has refuted claims made by a businesswoman from Fallin, alleging that her work van broke down earlier this year due to contaminated fuel. Naomi Lennox, aged 28, bought a Vauxhall Vivaro van for her dog-walking business in March 2023 and regularly refuelled at a Sainsbury’s garage on Drip Road. However, after a refuelling stop in April, the van experienced a breakdown and a mechanic later attributed the issue to the poor quality of the fuel in the vehicle.

The fuel system failure led to significant damage to the van, prompting Naomi to seek a replacement vehicle to continue her work. Despite subsequent inspections showing clear fuel, Naomi believes that the supermarket bears responsibility for the incident and seeks awareness for others who may have been affected. She stated, “I feel as if this can’t be the only time this has happened to someone, so I’m just getting the word out there for any other people affected.”

In addition to the financial costs incurred from the van’s damage and the rental of a replacement vehicle, Naomi claims that her complaints to Sainsbury’s were disregarded. The supermarket, however, maintains that there is no evidence of fuel contamination following a thorough investigation at the garage. A Sainsbury’s spokeswoman reiterated the steps taken to address the issue and assured that measures were in place to monitor fuel quality continuously.

The disagreement between Naomi and the supermarket highlights the challenges faced by consumers in resolving disputes over product quality and accountability. Such incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of maintaining transparency and communication between businesses and customers to address concerns effectively and fairly. As consumers, it is crucial to be vigilant about the products and services we use and advocate for accountability when issues arise.

In conclusion, the conflicting accounts between the businesswoman and the supermarket underscore the complexities involved in addressing consumer complaints and ensuring product quality and safety. Open dialogue and cooperation between businesses and customers are essential to fostering trust and resolving issues promptly and satisfactorily.
