A police officer is currently in the hospital after an alleged dog attack took place in Edinburgh, leaving a woman also bitten in the incident. The commotion unfolded in the Willowbrae area of the city, prompting riot police to rush to the scene following reports of a woman being assaulted by a dog around 9.10am on Tuesday, December 3. Upon arrival, emergency crews discovered that a male officer had also been bitten by the same dog. The canine managed to escape before the officer was swiftly taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for medical attention, and he was later released.
Fortunately, the woman involved did not require any medical treatment. The dog was eventually located in the Easter Road area, though its specific breed remains unidentified. Subsequently, the owner of the dog, a 37-year-old man, was apprehended on suspicion of various offences as investigations continue into the circumstances of the alarming ordeal. Images captured at the scene illustrate riot officers and multiple police vehicles present to manage the situation.
A spokesperson from Police Scotland relayed to Edinburgh Live, “We were called around 9.10am on Tuesday, 3 December, to a report of a dog biting a woman in the Willowbrae area of Edinburgh. Officers attended and the dog also bit a male officer before running off. It was recovered on a cycle path in the Easter Road area. The woman did not require medical treatment and the officer was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment and later discharged. A 37-year-old man, the owner of the dog, has been arrested in connection with various offences and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
