£500,000 Investment as English-Based Pro Footballer Pioneers Aparthotel and Business Hub in Ayrshire
Rochdale FC’s all-time leading goalscorer, Ian Henderson, is at the forefront of a groundbreaking venture in Ayrshire, as he and three other businessmen inject £500,000 into a project in Ayr’s historic Wellington Square.
The group, operating under the entity 3 Sigma Ayr Ltd, obtained planning permission earlier this year to transform a category B-listed property at 21 Wellington Square. The conversion will see the basement space turned into two aparthotel suites, while the ground floor, first floor, and attic space will be revamped into a business hub aimed at attracting startups and SMEs. The entire establishment is scheduled to be operational by the end of January, with meticulous restoration work being carried out in recent months.
Ian Henderson, renowned for his success in front of goal, expressed his enthusiasm for the nearing completion of the project. Speaking exclusively to Ayrshire Live, he highlighted the unique selling points of the development, positioning it as the first of its kind in Ayrshire. The establishment aims to offer a blend of serviced offices and hybrid aparthotel accommodation, catering to the evolving needs of businesses and travellers post-COVID.
The project holds significance beyond its commercial aspects, with a focus on job creation, economic growth, and service provision within the local community. The investment, totalling approximately £500,000 covering property acquisition and refurbishment costs, underscores the group’s commitment to delivering a distinct offering in the region.
Partnering with industry experts like Jamie Macdonald of Macdonald Engineers, the team is set to launch similar ventures, including a 12-bedroom Aparthotel project in Coatbridge. By repurposing underutilised commercial properties, the consortium aims to revitalise diverse sectors, from tourism to SME support, exemplifying a holistic approach to economic development.
Ian Henderson’s personal ties to Scotland add a sentimental dimension to the endeavour, with the Ayrshire project reflecting his ambition to blend heritage charm with contemporary amenities. The establishment is poised to enhance Ayr’s allure as a vibrant destination, appealing to both leisure and business travellers seeking a distinctive and immersive experience.
As the envisioned completion date approaches, the team anticipates the positive impact of their initiative on Ayr’s economy and community. The project encapsulates a transformative narrative, illustrating the power of proactive investment and revitalisation efforts in driving local prosperity and fostering a dynamic business environment.
