North Lanarkshire Council is urging employers and businesses in the region to provide paid summer placements for young people in 2025. The council’s Summer Placement Programme aims to give young individuals, aged 16 and above, a hands-on experience across various sectors over seven weeks from late June to mid-August. Building on the success of the 2024 programme, the council is looking to expand placements in areas such as Built Environment, Digital, and Health and Social Care to equip youngsters for their future careers and address local workforce requirements.
By engaging in the initiative, companies have the chance to contribute to their community by helping youths develop crucial workplace skills like teamwork, problem-solving, and communication. Additionally, businesses can positively impact the local workforce by supporting young people in establishing a strong foundation within the industry. Councillor Michael McBride, convener of education and families, highlighted the importance of offering such opportunities to young individuals, providing them with valuable insights and addressing workforce demands.
Employers interested in participating can reach out to nlacademies@northlan.gov.uk, and there will be an employer engagement event on January 24 at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility to learn more about the Summer Placement Programme. This event will feature insights from employers and young people involved in the programme.
