Search Operation Ceases for Scottish Teen Who Disappeared Two Weeks Ago in Freezing Conditions
The search for a Scottish teenager who went missing over two weeks ago in freezing -9°C conditions has been called off. Aleksandr Benga was last sighted near the water wheel on the premises of Lews Castle in Stornoway, Lewis, at approximately 8.45 am on Monday, November 18. Police had issued an urgent appeal to locate the 16-year-old, and coastguard teams for the Western Isles, Skye, and Lochaber were mobilized. With temperatures plummeting to as low as -9°C in the Western Isles, authorities urged the public to remain alert and inspect their surroundings.
Despite extensive efforts, Aleksandr remains missing. Unfortunately, the police have confirmed the suspension of physical search operations. Inspector Euan Cowan stated, “Aleksandr Benga, 16, was last seen around 8.45 am on Monday, November 18, 2024, in the Lewis Castle area of Stornoway. Despite extensive inquiries and rigorous searches involving a number of local and national specialist police resources, Aleksandr remains a missing person.” He reassured that while physical searches have concluded, they will continue to evaluate all available information and investigate any new leads provided to them.
Aleksandr’s mother, Viktoria, alerted the public to a fraudulent fundraising campaign set up in her son’s name, cautioning against making any donations to the online platform claiming to support search efforts. She clarified through social media that neither she nor her family had initiated any fundraising activities for Aleksandr and advised people to be wary of such schemes. It is reported that the fake fundraiser has since been removed.
