Sistema’s Big Noise project safeguarded with £2.6m boost in Scottish Government’s draft budget
A significant boost of £2.6 million has been allocated to Sistema’s Big Noise project as part of the Scottish Government’s draft budget, ensuring the continuation of this vital programme designed to address child poverty in six communities across Scotland.
The Big Noise initiative, delivered by Sistema Scotland, aims to support over 4,000 children and young people through its music and social change programme. The proposed budget includes funding for the six Big Noise centres located in Raploch, Fallin, Dundee, Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Edinburgh.
Big Noise not only focuses on providing musical education but also helps young participants develop essential life skills such as confidence, resilience, creativity, and aspiration. Research has shown that individuals involved in the programme have better employment prospects upon leaving school, reducing the likelihood of unemployment.
Having originated in Raploch in 2008 with a modest setup of six musicians and 35 children, Big Noise has evolved over 16 years to become a transformative force in communities. Benny Higgins, Chair of Sistema Scotland, expressed gratitude for the continued support from the Scottish Government, highlighting the positive impact of the programme in tackling child poverty and empowering young people and families to fulfil their potential.
