Stirling barber celebrates making the cut after claiming top UK newcomer prize
Stirling hairdresser Aaron Fallon, originally from Sligo in Ireland, has overcome the odds to emerge victorious in the Great Barber Bash competition in Birmingham. After relocating to Stirling nine years ago and transitioning from a career in construction to pursue his passion for barbering, Aaron’s dedication has paid off with a prestigious national award.
The 29-year-old made the bold decision to leave behind his construction job and enrol in a barbering course in Glasgow, leading him to join Black Lotus Barbers in Stirling’s Upper Craigs alongside co-worker Erin Wick. Competing for the ‘New Blood’ award, which recognises emerging talent in the industry with up to three years of experience, Aaron clinched the top prize while Erin secured the third spot.
Reflecting on his challenging journey, Aaron shared, “I was working in construction and was just thinking a lot of the time that it just wasn’t for me.” Despite facing uncertainties, Aaron persevered with the unwavering support of his partner Laura and their young son Jaxen. His resilience and hard work have not only brought him personal success but have also added to the accolades of Black Lotus Barbers.
Acknowledging the pivotal role of his colleague Grant from Simpson & Co in Stirling, who assisted with the colours for his competition entry, Aaron expressed his gratitude for the collaborative effort that propelled him to victory. Shop owner Amy Fyfe also commended Aaron and Erin on their achievements, highlighting their work ethic and dedication to the craft.
