A new Church of Scotland minister, Rev Dawn Westwood, has been welcomed to Clydesdale after celebrating her ordination at Greyfriars Parish Church. Rev Westwood will serve as an assistant minister across the area, providing pastoral and preaching support to congregations, as well as taking on the role of chaplain to Livingston FC’s women’s team.
Rev Westwood, who completed her probationary period at Kirkton Church in Carluke, expressed her gratitude to the congregations she has worked with, saying she was blessed and nurtured by their support. She shared her excitement for the future of her ministry, highlighting her deep-rooted faith and passion for football.
The newly-ordained minister, accompanied by her family and loved ones, reflected on her journey into the ministry, citing personal experiences with faith and family that have shaped her calling. Rev Westwood also noted the transferable skills she gained from her previous career in nursing, bringing leadership qualities to her new role.
During her time at Kirkton, Rev Westwood explored various aspects of ministry, from preaching and conducting funeral services to engaging with youth groups. She expressed her eagerness to offer pastoral support in Clydesdale, emphasising the importance of mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.
Rev Westwood’s involvement with the Livingston FC women’s team was described as a special ministry that brings joy and purpose. She highlighted the significance of community, friendship, and divine guidance in her vocation, emphasising the inclusive nature of church beyond its physical walls.
