Goldie the Gritter, a beloved winter maintenance vehicle from Econ Engineering, has brought festive joy to Abercromby Primary School in Alloa by donning a giant Christmas jumper and hat. Visitng schools near Econ’s regional depots as part of a 900-mile tour, Goldie made a special stop at the primary school to educate students on the essential role of gritters in ensuring road safety during winter. The visit also included a creative competition where pupils designed their own festive jumpers for Goldie, adding to the excitement of the day.
Originally constructed in 2019 to mark Econ’s 50th anniversary, Goldie is equipped with state-of-the-art gritting technology and has since travelled across the nation for driver training and educational purposes. More than just promoting road safety, Goldie aims to engage communities and stress the significance of winter maintenance initiatives. Her giant Christmas jumper, measuring an impressive 32 feet by 28 feet, was intricately knitted by 35 volunteers from the Ripon Community Poppy Project using 1,130 balls of wool over 4,500 hours.
