Motorists in Dumfries are being urged to remove their vehicles from a car park in the midst of fears of potential flooding caused by Storm Darragh. The Dumfries and Galloway Council has issued a plea for all cars and vans to be cleared out of the Whitesands car park by 6pm on Friday evening due to concerns raised by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) about possible flooding from the River Nith overflow.
The council took to Facebook to convey the message, stating that SEPA had warned about the possibility of flooding at the Whitesands riverside car park as a result of Storm Darragh. Consequently, the car park will be closed from 5pm on that day with a strict requirement for all vehicles to be removed by 6pm. A yellow weather warning for rain covering the entire Dumfries and Galloway region is set to come into effect at 3pm on Friday and last until 12 noon on Saturday.
The impending arrival of Storm Darragh has also resulted in a yellow weather warning for strong winds across the region from 3pm on Friday until 6am on Sunday. Furthermore, southern and western parts of the area are under an amber Met Office Warning, predicting gusts of up to 80mph in certain locations. This warning will be in effect from 1am on Saturday until 9pm the same day.
