Police Scotland and various partners in Dumfries town centre have come together for a festive safety campaign aimed at keeping communities safe during the holiday season. Inspector Amy Ritchie spearheaded the initiative, which includes collaboration with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Street Pastors, Ambulance Service, Trading Standards, and Dumfries and Galloway Council.
The campaign focuses on raising awareness about the simple steps residents and visitors can take to ensure their safety, protect their belongings, and safeguard their property. Inspector Ritchie highlighted the unique roles each partner plays in maintaining safety and order as individuals gear up for festive activities. Beyond Dumfries town centre, the partnership will also extend efforts to other towns in the region and major shopping areas like Caledonia Park at Gretna, throughout Christmas and Hogmanay.
Emphasising the importance of personal responsibility, Inspector Ritchie urged the public to take precautions such as planning nights out, securing homes, avoiding sharing travel plans on social media, drinking responsibly, and reporting any suspicious activities to the authorities.
