A Scottish woman who was released on bail after driving at police officers was back in trouble the day after her release, smashing into six cars during a chaotic spree. Katie Reid, who had never passed a driving test, was initially sentenced to six months in prison on October 2 and banned from driving for three years. Despite this, Reid lodged an appeal against her prison sentence, and the Appeal Court granted her bail on October 11. Within hours of being released, Reid was behind the wheel of a car causing chaos in the city centre.
Reid was driving a brand new £30,000 MG HS Trophy Auto when she collided with another vehicle and proceeded to hit four parked cars, causing extensive damage worth tens of thousands of pounds. She first crashed into a £40,000 Citroen Relay van before striking a Volvo V40 Cross Country, a Fiat Panda Active, a Volvo C30, and a Rover Maestro. Following this incident, Reid’s bail was revoked, and she appeared in court to admit to dangerous driving charges in Perth on October 12. Reid continued driving recklessly even after damaging the six vehicles, including driving on the wrong side of the road before crashing into a garden.
The court heard that on July 29 of the same year, Reid had been driving a VW Golf at almost three times the speed limit on the A90. Despite roadworks and speed restrictions, she was driving at speeds exceeding 80mph. When police tried to stop her, Reid ignored them, drove through a red light, and almost collided with other vehicles. The dangerous chase led to Reid driving through a field to evade capture.
Prior to these incidents, Reid had been fined £450 in August and banned from driving for a year for driving with cocaine in her system in Perth the previous year. The court described her conduct as “appalling,” highlighting her repeated disregard for the law and safety on the roads.
