Heartless Parents Guilty of Burying Son in Horrific Case of Child Neglect

A callous couple is facing jail time after committing an unimaginable act of cruelty towards their three-year-old son, resulting in his tragic death and burial in their garden. Tai and Naiyahmi Yasharahyalah have been found guilty of causing or allowing the death of their son, Abiyah Yasharahyalah, who passed away in early 2020 due to severe malnourishment.
The court heard that Abiyah suffered from a respiratory illness exacerbated by severe malnutrition, as the parents imposed an “extreme” vegan diet on him, leading to conditions such as rickets, anaemia, and stunted growth. Evidence showed that the toddler had several fractures on his body, indicating a history of physical abuse.
Despite a post-mortem examination failing to determine the exact cause of death, prosecutors successfully argued that Abiyah was subjected to neglect and denied proper nutrition and medical care by his parents. The Yasharahyalahs now await sentencing at Coventry Crown Court following the guilty verdict.
During the trial, it was revealed that the couple maintained a secluded lifestyle, shunning mainstream society and attempting to treat Abiyah’s illnesses with ineffective home remedies instead of seeking professional medical help. Their actions were described in court as displaying “breathtaking cruelty” and arrogance towards their own child’s suffering.
The couple, who lived in unconventional settings including a shipping container, faced eviction in 2022 and left Abiyah’s body buried in their former home’s garden. They were eventually apprehended while residing in a caravan, leading to the discovery of their son’s remains and the subsequent legal proceedings.
Prosecutors highlighted the complete lack of compassion and responsibility exhibited by the defendants towards their son’s deteriorating health, emphasising the severe consequences of their neglectful actions. The case serves as a tragic reminder of the importance of proper care and protection for vulnerable children.
