Dumfries Theatre Group Inspires Love for Performing Arts Among Young Children
Talented tots in Dumfries are being given a unique opportunity to nurture a passion for the performing arts through Tiny Tots sessions offered by Razzamataz Dumfries. These sessions are specially crafted for babies and toddlers, providing them with a platform to explore music, movement, and sensory play while developing confidence and vital social skills. The initiative also offers parents and carers a chance to bond with their little ones and connect with others who share a similar journey in parenthood.
Debbie Mitchell, the principal of Razzamataz Dumfries, shared, “The sessions are interactive and enjoyable, featuring contemporary songs that both adults and children can relish. Each week, there is a new theme with a diverse selection of songs ranging from nursery rhymes to Disney classics and chart-toppers, all linked to a particular topic.” The activities include singalongs, light shows, and sensory play to engage children of all ages. Younger ones can immerse themselves in colours and textures, while older children can practice responding to cues from the teacher, preparing them for important life skills required for school.
The popularity of Tiny Tots has soared, leading to full classes and the establishment of a waiting list. Debbie expressed, “As a new parent, you may not know the path your child will take. A baby starting Tiny Tots could be beginning an eighteen-year journey with us.” Beyond fostering an appreciation for the arts, these sessions serve as a platform for building relationships among participants, creating genuine connections between families and offering a support network during this crucial phase of early childhood development.
Whether it’s grandparents bonding with grandchildren or new parents forming friendships, many attendees choose to extend their time together by enjoying a coffee or visiting a soft play area post-session. By providing a nurturing environment for both children and parents, Razzamataz Dumfries aims to support families as they navigate the joys of parenthood and exploration of the arts.
