‘Dodgy’ Fire TV sticks crackdown warning – Full list of 13 areas targeted
Brits across the UK have been warned not to buy ‘dodgy’ Fire TV sticks, with 30 suppliers of illegal streaming services being hit by cease-and-desist orders. The crackdown comes as FACT, in collaboration with law enforcement, targets those involved in providing unlawful streaming services. The warning highlights the consequences individuals may face for using manipulated Fire TV sticks sold by criminals, allowing users to access services like Prime Video and Netflix without charge.
Originally designed by Amazon for legitimate streaming, these tampered devices are causing serious issues. Kieron Sharp, FACT’s chief, emphasised that the cease-and-desist orders are just the beginning of holding offenders accountable, with some individuals already facing arrest and criminal charges. Sharp warned that continuing to supply or use illicit streaming devices breaks the law and poses significant risks, such as exposure to malware, scams, and data theft.
A two-week enforcement operation led by FACT is underway, focusing on piracy operations in over a dozen major areas across the UK. Recently, a 42-year-old man was arrested in Newport for suspected involvement in illegal IPTV activities, including the sale of illicit Fire TV sticks. The crackdown targets areas including London, Kent, Sussex, Norfolk, and various other regions.
The message is clear: it’s important to stick to legitimate providers for entertainment to avoid illegal activities that could lead to serious consequences. Authorities are working diligently to shut down these illegal operations and safeguard users from potential harm associated with illegal streaming services.
In summary, the warning against purchasing ‘dodgy’ Fire TV sticks serves as a reminder for consumers to be cautious and opt for legal streaming services to avoid legal ramifications and potential risks linked to illicit activities on these manipulated devices. The crackdown on illegal streaming services by FACT and law enforcement illustrates their commitment to tackling piracy and ensuring the safety of users from malware and scams linked to illegal streaming activities.
