Bumper Donation Boosts East Kilbride Food Bank This Christmas
In a generous gesture, East Kilbride-based Glencairn Crystal has provided a significant cash donation to the local food bank, Loaves and Fishes, just in time for Christmas. The managing director, Paul Davidson, and his team have been dedicated supporters of the anti-poverty charity for years. Their annual contributions aim to ensure that every child in East Kilbride has a present to open on Christmas morning and no family goes without food during the festive season.
This year, Glencairn Crystal went above and beyond by donating a large assortment of toys and gifts, including £2000 worth of book tokens. Additionally, they increased their monthly cash donation to an impressive £1000. The family-run crystal decanter and glassware manufacturer is known for its prestigious decanters and the popular Glencairn Glass, used worldwide for whisky.
Paul Davidson shared, “It was a no brainer to help Denis from Loaves and Fishes in providing meals for the homeless and establishing a food bank in East Kilbride. Christmas can be tough for many, and we are committed to supporting those in need in our community.”
For over 30 years, Loaves and Fishes, under the leadership of former chair Denis Curran MBE and his late wife Cathie Curran, has worked tirelessly to assist the hungry and homeless in East Kilbride and Glasgow. This year, the charity plans to distribute 890 emergency food parcels, with gifts for 400 children who might otherwise go without presents.
Lesley Davidson, the current chair of Loaves and Fishes, expressed deep gratitude towards Paul and his team for their ongoing support. She highlighted the emotional investment of Glencairn Crystal employees in the charity’s work, emphasizing their commitment to helping those in need during the holiday season.
Amidst the challenges posed by COVID-19 and economic uncertainties, community support for food banks like Loaves and Fishes remains crucial in ensuring that vulnerable families receive the aid they require. The partnership between Glencairn Crystal and the charity exemplifies the power of local businesses coming together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing hardship.
As we reflect on this heartwarming initiative, let us remember the importance of supporting our local communities, especially during times of increased need and uncertainty. By working together and showing compassion, we can help create a brighter future for all.
