An East Kilbride man, George Crawford, has been discovered with nearly 20,000 child sex abuse photos, leading to his placement on the sex offenders’ register. Crawford, aged 67 and residing on Ash Places, could potentially face prison time upon his return to Hamilton Sheriff Court for sentencing next month. He confessed to possessing indecent images that were downloaded between January 2018 and February of the current year. John Coogan, the prosecutor, revealed that police officers, armed with a search warrant, visited Crawford’s residence on February 6. During the search, various devices were confiscated, including a laptop, a hard drive, three USB sticks, and a systems unit, all of which contained images depicting children being sexually abused. A total of 19,461 images were identified, of which 3418 portrayed the most severe forms of abuse. Shockingly, some of the children in the photos were believed to be as young as two years old. Additionally, ten video clips showing young victims being abused were also discovered. Despite being a first-time offender, Crawford appeared in court where Sheriff Scott Pattison deferred the sentence to allow for background reports, a risk assessment, and an electronic tagging assessment.
