Kids from two Lanarkshire primary schools recently had the opportunity to explore potential careers in construction. The pupils at Jackton Primary in East Kilbride and Stepps Primary School participated in a Christmas competition organised by Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes. In this Scotland-wide competition, children were tasked with designing their own festive hard hat, drawing inspiration from the local area and their own traditions. They were encouraged to use various materials such as glitter, paint, tinsel, and baubles to create unique and imaginative designs, with prizes awarded for the most festive and creative entries.
A total of 17 pupils from primary three to five at Jackton Primary and 53 children from primary two at Stepps Primary participated in the competition. Nine-year-old Mia Pang from Jackton Primary and six-year-old Jacob Maher from Stepps Primary emerged as the winners, each receiving a £50 Smyths voucher. All participants received a chocolate selection box as a token of appreciation from the housebuilders. Estelle Sykes, Sales Director at Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes West Scotland, commended the students for their extraordinary designs and highlighted the competition as a fun way to introduce young minds to the construction industry while celebrating the holiday season.
