MOVIE REVIEW: We check out if Disney sequel ‘Moana 2’ is oceans of fun

Disney’s highly anticipated sequel, ‘Moana 2’, has hit the big screens and the reviews are in. Following the success of the original ‘Moana’, fans were eager to see what new adventures awaited the beloved heroine. Voiced by Auli’i Cravalho, Moana embarks on a journey to the far seas of Oceania after a call from her wayfinding ancestors.

While the magic of the first film still lingers, ‘Moana 2’ left some viewers feeling underwhelmed and wanting more. The directors, David G. Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller, set the stage for what feels like a prelude to something greater, possibly hinting at a live-action adaptation in the future. Despite this, Cravalho’s portrayal of Moana remains endearing and lovable, with supporting characters like Rooster Heihei and pig Pua continuing to bring humor without uttering a word.

The animation in ‘Moana 2’ is described as sumptuous, transporting viewers to the beautiful seas of Oceania. The exploration of Samoan culture and history adds depth to the storyline, but some criticisms have surfaced regarding Dwayne Johnson’s character, Maui, feeling somewhat sidelined in this sequel. Additionally, the lack of a formidable villain detracts from the overall impact of the ocean-set finale.

Although the songs in ‘Moana 2’ may not reach the same heights as its predecessor, the film still manages to captivate audiences with its visuals and heartfelt moments. While ‘Moana 2’ may not reach the same levels of excitement as the original, it sets the stage for potential future projects that could elevate the heroine to new heights.
