Young Scot’s Life Altered by Shock Kidney Disease Diagnosis
A 24-year-old guitarist from Scotland has shared how a mysterious rash that appeared while he was out with friends led to a life-changing diagnosis of a rare and aggressive kidney disease. Dylan Moran was enjoying a drink with his friends on November 8 when he suddenly broke out in red spots all over his body, prompting a rush to the hospital. Doctors discovered that his kidney function was rapidly declining, and after two days of tests, Dylan was diagnosed with IgA Vasculitis, a rare and unpredictable kidney condition.
Dylan expressed his initial disbelief at his diagnosis, stating that he had dismissed his symptoms as asthma-related before being suddenly hospitalised due to the rash. The young musician described the emotional impact of the diagnosis, noting the uncertainty surrounding the treatment and the intense physical and mental toll it has taken on him. Despite undergoing intensive chemotherapy, dialysis, and medication, Dylan’s kidney function remains unstable, leading to challenging moments and feelings of vulnerability.
In an effort to give back to the medical staff at Monklands Hospital who have been caring for him, Dylan and his band, The Dead Cinderellas, have organised a charity fundraiser called Moran’s Charity Bash, scheduled for January 10 at Stereo in Glasgow. The event aims to raise funds for the Renal Unit at Monklands University Hospital, where Dylan is receiving treatment. Despite his health struggles, Dylan hopes to perform at the fundraiser, highlighting the support and motivation he has received from friends, family, and even his favourite band, Brian Jonestown Massacre, who shared his fundraiser.
The response to the fundraiser has been overwhelming, with donations pouring in to support Dylan’s cause. The guitarist expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, sharing how it has lifted his spirits and driven him to raise awareness about IgA Vasculitis while fundraising for the hospital staff who have gone above and beyond in his care.
