Perth UHI Engineering Student Wins Award for Passion for Aviation

A Perth UHI student has been recognised with the prestigious Student of the Year Award for her exceptional achievements. Erica Lo Presti, studying BEng (Hons) Aircraft Engineering, has demonstrated academic success, personal resilience, and outstanding contributions to her peers and community.

The awards, given by UHI partnership, acknowledge students across the Highlands and Islands for their dedication and commitment. Erica’s passion for aviation and efforts to make it more inclusive have been highlighted as she excelled in her studies. She expressed gratitude for the honour and recognition, which has motivated her to continue pursuing her educational and career goals.

Erica managed to balance her studies with part-time work at Perth’s TPL Vision UK, where she contributed to various projects in mechanical design, printed circuit board assembly, and control engineering. Her final-year project, adapting a Piper PA-28 cockpit for pilots with right-hand hemiparesis, showcased her innovative and compassionate approach to engineering solutions.

Throughout her time at UHI Perth, Erica received multiple awards, including Best Aircraft Engineering Student and the Sidney Black Memorial Engineering Award. Her dedication and outstanding contributions have also been recognised in the academic community.
