Christmas donations from Perthshire have made their way to Ukraine in time for the festive season, bringing joy to children living near the conflict zone. Tayside And Strathearn Help for Ukraine (TASH) coordinated the effort, sending 800 Christmas boxes filled with gifts such as stationary, hats, gloves, toiletries, games, cuddly toys, books, and sweets, to areas like Kherson, Bakhmut, and Odessa.
The boxes, assembled by volunteers from the region, left Errol Airfield on November 27 and reached their destinations just in time for St Nicholas Day on December 6. Deborah Ovens from TASH for Ukraine expressed gratitude for the support, highlighting that some of the recipients are not only affected by the conflict but are also battling cancer. The aid provided by TASH reaches those in need quickly, bringing some festive cheer to children who eagerly await St Nicholas Day for gifts, unlike the traditional Christmas celebrations on December 25.
Despite the challenging circumstances in Ukraine, where children face the constant threat of attacks and displacement, the arrival of these Christmas boxes has brought moments of happiness and magic. Local police assisted in delivering the gifts to remote areas, ensuring the safety of the children amid the ongoing conflict.
