Google Maps Leads to Discovery of Woman Missing for Two Years

The body of a woman who had been missing for two years was finally found, thanks to Google Maps. Paulette Landrieux, 83, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, disappeared from her home while her husband, Marcel Taret, was busy with household chores. Marcel, who was Paulette’s sole caregiver, left her watching television and having lunch to hang out the washing. However, upon his return, Paulette was nowhere to be found.

Podcaster Mr Ballen shared that it was a constant challenge for Marcel to care for Paulette, who required assistance with daily activities like eating and taking medication. Paulette would sometimes wander off without informing Marcel, leading him to search for her and bring her back home. On the day of her disappearance in 2020, Marcel left Paulette alone for a few minutes to hang the laundry, only to discover she was missing when he returned inside.

Despite Marcel’s immediate search efforts and alerting the authorities, Paulette remained missing. Weeks turned into months, and eventually two years passed without any sign of Paulette. Marcel had nearly resigned himself to never knowing what happened to his wife until a neighbour made a startling connection in 2022.

The neighbour noticed that Google’s Streetview camera car had captured images of Paulette walking away from her home on the day she vanished. Investigators followed the path shown in the photos and located Paulette’s body in a thicket across the street from her house. It is believed that when the extensive search for her was ongoing, Paulette was trapped in the bush, unable to communicate with anyone, ultimately leading to her tragic demise.

The discovery of Paulette’s body after two years brought some closure to Marcel, who had feared he would never learn the fate of his wife. The use of technology like Google Maps played a crucial role in solving the mystery of Paulette’s disappearance.

In conclusion, the story of Paulette Landrieux’s disappearance and subsequent discovery serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by caregivers of loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease. The role of technology in bringing closure to families and solving mysteries highlights the importance of leveraging various resources in search and rescue operations.
