Environmental Awards Celebrate Lanarkshire Community Groups
Lanarkshire community groups have been honoured with environmental awards for their outstanding contributions to climate and nature action projects. A total of 24 community groups from across Lanarkshire were recognised at the annual It’s Your Neighbourhood awards, organised by Keep Scotland Beautiful. Among the projects celebrated were community gardens in Blantyre, a South Lanarkshire eco-site generating its own solar power and supplying fresh produce to the local foodbank, and a group supporting a Monklands park.
The organisers commended the dedicated volunteers across Lanarkshire for their passionate efforts in improving and protecting their local areas through environmental initiatives. The groups received accolades ranging from the top level-five award of “outstanding” to level-two “improving”, with some also earning additional certificates of distinction in their respective categories.
Among the recipients of outstanding and distinction awards were TACT Healthy Park in Blantyre, Blantyre Miners’ Community Garden, Flourishing Forth eco site, and Friends of Centenary and West End parks in Monklands. Other groups from North Lanarkshire, such as the Northern Corridor community volunteers, Pride in Carbrain, and Greenhead Moss Community Group, were also recognised for their efforts in enhancing their local greenspaces.
The Lanarkshire community groups demonstrated remarkable achievements in creating cleaner, greener, and more sustainable environments for their communities.
