ITV doctor Amir Khan says ‘everyone over 40’ should buy this in 2025

ITV doctor Amir Khan urges those over 40 to purchase a vital piece of equipment in 2025, noting that it could potentially save lives. Dr Khan, a familiar face on television shows like Lorraine and Good Morning Britain, shared this important advice as part of his New Year’s recommendations. He highlighted the significance of focusing on achievable health goals throughout the year, rather than setting unrealistic resolutions, especially related to diet and lifestyle changes.

In a recent Instagram update, Dr Khan stressed the importance of monitoring blood pressure, particularly after reaching the age of 40, as it plays a crucial role in detecting serious health issues early on, potentially preventing heart attacks. He advised everyone over 40 (or even younger with a family history of high blood pressure) to invest in a home blood pressure machine to monitor their levels regularly.

High blood pressure, often referred to as the “silent killer,” can lead to various health complications if left undiagnosed or poorly managed. Dr Khan, who works as a full-time NHS GP, recommended taking blood pressure readings after resting for 20-30 minutes in a calm environment. He explained that while blood pressure can fluctuate throughout the day, persistently high readings above 135-140/85-90 should prompt consultation with a healthcare professional.

Dr Khan also highlighted lifestyle factors that can help maintain healthy blood pressure levels, such as quitting smoking, moderating alcohol intake, eating whole foods, staying active, getting sufficient sleep, and managing stress. Encouraging individuals to prioritise their health in the new year, he urged people to keep a close watch on their blood pressure and seek medical advice if it remains elevated.

For further information on managing blood pressure, Dr Khan directed individuals to resources available from the NHS. By following his recommendations, individuals can take proactive steps towards safeguarding their heart health and overall well-being in the year ahead.
