A man has been put behind bars after causing a disturbance with a shop assistant in Wishaw. Paul Ferrie, 34, from Motherwell, was sentenced to 16 months in jail at Hamilton Sheriff Court for his actions on September 7 last year.
The incident began at a Lidl supermarket where Ferrie entered a staff-only area, took body-worn cameras, and shouted at a staff member. He then proceeded to Peacocks, a clothing store, where he became aggressive when given women’s shoes to try on. Ferrie started pulling clothes off hangers and brandished a knife before leaving the store.
Police were called, and Ferrie, who was intoxicated, was seen throwing one of the stolen cameras at a man. Despite being on bail at the time, Ferrie admitted to threatening or abusive behaviour, theft, and assault.
Ferrie’s lawyer acknowledged the seriousness of the charges, and Sheriff Michael Higgins highlighted Ferrie’s history of disorderly conduct. The court deemed Ferrie’s behaviour distressing to those involved.
