McDonald’s Plans for a £4 Million Drive-Thru in Galloway
McDonald’s is moving forward with its proposal to establish a £4 million drive-thru in Galloway. The renowned fast-food chain has submitted a planning application to Dumfries and Galloway Council to construct the eatery on the premises of the abandoned Lochryan Hotel, located just off the A77 near Cairnryan.
If the plans are approved, the drive-thru is expected to generate 120 job opportunities in the area. McDonald’s introduced its Cairnryan project last autumn and stated that there was substantial backing for the initiative during a public gathering in November. Andrew Crewther, McDonald’s Senior Acquisitions Surveyor, expressed the importance of this step in realising their goal of bringing a McDonald’s drive-thru to Cairnryan, serving not only the local community but also the neighbouring regions.
Crewther added, “We have been pleased with the overwhelming support the proposed restaurant has garnered from the local community, with 95 per cent of all respondents confirming their endorsement for our plans. This positive feedback highlights the demand for more local food options, and we are excited to introduce a new McDonald’s restaurant to cater to the area’s requirements.”
In addition to the Galloway project, McDonald’s is also seeking to open a second drive-thru in Dumfries. Although the company withdrew an application to develop a site on Annan Road after council officials advised against it, they intend to submit a fresh planning application later this year.
