Dumfriesshire Window Artist Raises Funds to Bring Holiday Cheer to Children in Hospital
Leo Clarke, a dedicated father from Dumfries and Galloway, has gone above and beyond to bring joy to children at the Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary’s children’s ward. Clarke, who is known for his snow window art, decided to use his talent to fundraise for gifts of toys and sweets for the hospital’s young patients.
Over the course of four weeks, Clarke painted wintry designs on approximately 100 homes and businesses in the region, raising over £500 in donations. His inspiration stemmed from the exceptional care his own son, Riley, received during a two-week stay at the hospital. Clarke expressed his desire to give back to other children facing similar situations by providing them with special treats during the holiday season.
Clarke involved his three children in the charitable cause, enlisting their help in selecting and organizing the toys and chocolates for donation. Delighted by the gesture, Kirstine Burns, Senior Charge Nurse at the Children’s Ward, expressed her gratitude for the generous donation, emphasizing the impact it would have on both the children and the hospital staff.
NHS Dumfries and Galloway Endowment Fund manager Nick Mitchell also commended Clarke for his efforts, thanking him and the community for their contributions towards making the donation possible. Mitchell highlighted the dedication Clarke exhibited in decorating numerous windows with his snow art, organizing the gifts, and delivering them with his children.
