A Scottish chef has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for raping a woman while she slept, as part of a disturbing pattern of abuse. Scott Wilson, aged 33 and from Edinburgh, subjected his victim to a range of offences over several years, including sending abusive messages, holding her at knifepoint, and carrying out the violent sexual assault while she was asleep. In addition, Wilson was found guilty of possessing cocaine between July 2018 and June 2023.
The High Court in Livingston convicted Wilson of seven charges, including rape, following a trial in November 2024. The abuse started with verbal attacks and escalated to physical violence, with Wilson hitting the woman and threatening her and her family. He also forcibly locked her in a bathroom with a knife and assaulted her severely. Wilson’s abuse culminated in raping the victim while she was incapacitated and unable to give consent.
At the sentencing on January 8, Wilson received a 16-year extended sentence, with 12 years to be served in custody. He was also added to the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely and received a non-harassment order preventing any contact with the victim. The Procurator Fiscal for High Court Sexual Offences, Katrina Parkes, praised the victim’s courage in coming forward and emphasized the importance of reporting such crimes to seek justice.
Detective Constable Thomas Bridge from Police Scotland commended the victim for her bravery and urged anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse to report it, no matter how much time has passed.
