Bill and Jean Marshall, residents of HC-One Scotland’s Douglas View Care Home in Hamilton, recently celebrated their remarkable 73rd wedding anniversary. The couple’s enduring love story began in 1950 when they met on a bus trip to Girvan with their friends. Their relationship blossomed, leading them to tie the knot on December 29, 1951, at the Girl Guides Hall in Motherwell. Bill, 97, and Jean, 95, shared their secret to a successful marriage, emphasizing the importance of never going to bed angry with each other.
Both Bill and Jean had careers at the Philips Lighting Factory in Hamilton before retiring. Over the years, they welcomed a daughter named Linda, two grandchildren, Ross and Laura, and four great-grandchildren named Cameron, William, Zara, and Mia. The couple’s family joined them for a special afternoon tea party at the care home, where the lounge was decorated with balloons and banners for the occasion. The party featured a variety of treats including scones, fancy cakes, Prosecco, and a customised swan floral cake made by the home’s head chef.
Bill and Jean expressed their gratitude for the efforts made to celebrate their anniversary, including receiving a congratulatory card from King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The couple shared their delight in each other’s company, still enjoying spending quality time together and doing everything as a team.
