Police in Lanarkshire have issued a warning about ‘frost-jacking’ following a series of car thefts in the area. Residents are being urged to remain cautious and not leave vehicles unattended while defrosting, after four incidents of frost-jacking were reported in the region on Thursday morning.
The incidents included the theft of three vehicles on Brankholm Brae and Whitecraig Gardens in Hamilton, as well as another vehicle in Coll, East Kilbride. Additionally, there was an attempted theft of a vehicle on Burn Road, Chapelton. Police have stated that investigations are ongoing.
These latest incidents come after a previous report of a 66-year-old BMW owner who bravely chased down a thief who stole his convertible when he left the engine running to defrost the vehicle in his driveway. The stolen BMW was later found in Blantyre, five miles away from the owner’s home.
A police spokesperson warned motorists about the risks of leaving cars unlocked and unattended with the engine running, as this can attract opportunistic thieves and may even invalidate insurance policies if a vehicle is stolen or damaged.
The community is advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent falling victim to such crimes, especially during the cold winter months when vehicles require defrosting.
