A Wishaw kids’ charity is calling on Lanarkshire residents to participate in this year’s Kiltwalk to show support for children with life-limiting illnesses. Volunteers from the Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation will once again tackle the 20-mile and 14-mile treks later this year to raise funds for the charity. Last year, over 30 individuals participated in raising money for DreamMaker, and the charity’s coordinator, Angela Cook, is hopeful for an even larger turnout this year.
The Kiltwalk event is scheduled for Sunday, April 27, and aims to raise funds for children and families affected by life-threatening illnesses. Angela Cook emphasized the significance of every step taken during the event, indicating that each step contributes towards providing support and hope to those in need. She highlighted the importance of community support in making a real difference and mentioned discounted sign-up codes available for a limited number of participants, with a minimum fundraising target of £100.
At the previous Glasgow event, more than 14,100 participants took to the streets to raise funds for various charities, including the DreamMaker Foundation. The event attracted a significant number of participants, with funds raised contributing to supporting numerous charitable causes. Sir Tom Hunter commended the Kiltwalk for its effectiveness in fundraising for charities, with over £3.2 million raised for 900 Scottish charities in Glasgow alone.
The charity event was described as an accessible and impactful way for individuals to support causes they care about, with funds raised going directly to chosen charities. Since The Hunter Foundation’s involvement over eight years ago, Kiltwalk participants have raised over £46 million for a wide array of Scottish charities, illustrating the event’s positive impact on communities across Scotland.
In conclusion, the Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation’s call to action for Lanarkshire residents to join this year’s Kiltwalk embodies the spirit of community support and charity fundraising. By participating in the event, individuals have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children and families facing life-threatening conditions, exemplifying the power of collective effort in creating positive change.
