Paisley Beast Jailed for “Robbing Girl of Childhood” in Seven-Year Campaign of Sex Abuse
A vile Paisley man has been sentenced for the horrific sexual abuse of two young girls, which a sheriff described as “robbing them of their childhood”. Edward Brolly, 87, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a young girl over a seven-year period while he was in a position of trust. Between 2008 and 2015, Brolly would pick the girl up from school twice a week and subjected her to years of abuse.
He also sexually assaulted a second girl, aged just five, whom he would also pick up from school. The court heard how Brolly would engage in inappropriate touching while the girls were in his care, with one victim not understanding the gravity of the abuse due to her young age. The abuse only occurred when Brolly was alone with the children, and one victim eventually disclosed the abuse to others as she grew older and realized the actions were wrong.
Despite Brolly’s health issues, including cancer and leukaemia, the court condemned his actions as vile and calculated. Sheriff Gillian Craig emphasized the impact of his abuse on the victims, one of whom suffered significant trauma leading to self-harm and suicide attempts, while the other turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism. Brolly was sentenced to 54 months in prison and placed on the sex offenders’ register for his crimes.
