Keep Scotland Beautiful Recognises Monklands Schools’ Tenth Green Flags
Proud pupils and staff at Drumpark Primary School and Nursery in Coatbridge and Clarkston Primary have been honoured with a prestigious accolade from environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful. The two Monklands schools were visited by a representative of the organisation to commemorate their achievement of being awarded their tenth Green Flags, the highest accolade in the international environmental Eco-Schools programme.
In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the international Eco-Schools and Young Reporters for the Environment programmes, Keep Scotland Beautiful hosted an online assembly, conducted live lessons, and set up special challenges to mark this milestone. As part of the recognition, schools reaching significant milestones were visited to acknowledge their success. Keep Scotland Beautiful’s senior education and learning officer, Catriona Rae, visited Drumpark Primary School and Nursery and Clarkston Primary School to present certificates to their eco-committees in recognition of their tenth Green Flags.
Barry Fisher, CEO of Keep Scotland Beautiful, expressed his delight at the dedication of the schools, stating, “It’s great that we were able to visit both Drumpark Primary School and Nursery and Clarkston Primary School to present a certificate of achievement and to hear from the children, young people, and educators about their inspiring action and commitment to improving our environment. For the past 30 years, we have loved hearing about the remarkable achievements of our young people and the development of learning for sustainability across the world, and we look forward to continuing to provide support through our Climate Action Schools framework.”
Eco-Schools is a globally recognised sustainable schools programme run by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and delivered by Keep Scotland Beautiful. The recognition of these Monklands schools’ commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship highlights the importance of instilling these values in the younger generation for a greener and more sustainable future.
In conclusion, by honouring Drumpark Primary School and Nursery in Coatbridge and Clarkston Primary with their tenth Green Flags, Keep Scotland Beautiful has not only recognised their outstanding environmental efforts but has also highlighted the significance of education in fostering a culture of sustainability among young learners. These initiatives serve as a testament to the dedication of schools in Monklands towards environmental conservation and sustainability practices.
