Dalbeattie resident completes ‘around the world’ cycling challenge in support of Macmillan Cancer Support
A remarkable cycling feat saw Guy Bryson from Dalbeattie, Scotland, complete a challenge equivalent to cycling around the world, all to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. Bryson’s impressive journey covered nearly 8,000 miles, mirroring the diameter of the Earth, throughout the year 2024.
Initially setting out to cycle in Wales to support the charity, Bryson’s determination led him to extend his goal significantly. His final destination, the Heartstane in Dalbeattie Woods, marked the completion of his challenge with just a few days to spare. Reflecting on his journey, Bryson shared, “It took a lot of motivation to get out the door as I had to do 150-200 miles a week. It’s not easy when it’s pouring!”
To keep the challenge engaging, Bryson diversified his cycling routes, incorporating gravel biking, road biking, and mountain biking. His dedication to the cause also led him to participate in the Letape du Tour de France in 2023, cycling a stage of the renowned race to raise further funds for Macmillan.
Throughout his 2024 cycling challenge, Bryson covered a total of 7,926 miles, conquering a staggering elevation of 446,074 feet – exceeding the height of Mount Everest more than 15 times over. His admirable fundraising efforts have earned him over £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Bryson’s commitment to supporting those affected by cancer showcases the power of individuals to make a positive impact through personal challenges.
