Police in Stirling are cautioning residents to “be on your guard” following the arrest of a man charged with ‘doorstep peddling’ in various areas of the city. The 30-year-old individual was apprehended after turning up unannounced at properties in Doune, Kippen, Gargunnock, and Stirling in an attempt to sell goods, in violation of the Pedlars Act.
The Pedlars Act, dating back to 1871, mandates that pedlars must seek a certificate from the chief constable of their local police force to conduct door-to-door sales. Doing so without a certificate is considered an offence. The man has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date to face the charges brought against him by the authorities.
