Stunning Weather Swing Captured in Scotland’s Highlands
The unpredictable January weather in the Scottish Highlands was recently showcased in a series of stunning photographs taken just 24 hours apart. Glasgow businessman, Donald MacLeod, captured the breathtaking transformation of the landscape from Shieldaig looking over Kinlochewe over the weekend.
The first image displayed a vast, snow-covered vista, creating a winter wonderland scene. However, within a mere day, the second picture showed a drastic change as almost all the snow had melted away. This rapid shift was part of a larger weather swing in the Highlands, with temperatures varying by over 30 degrees Celsius in some areas, ranging from a freezing -19C to a relatively balmy 13C in just a few days.
MacLeod, who frequents the area with his wife every January, was astounded by the rapid change in weather. He described the initial scene as a total winter wonderland with thick snow adorning the trees, creating a picturesque view. Yet, within a day, the snow had disappeared entirely, leaving behind a transformed landscape.
The businessman highlighted the wild and wonderful nature of Scottish weather, showcasing its unpredictability and dramatic shifts. As the region experienced a recent cold snap following the warmest Christmas morning on record, further fluctuations are expected, with a potential freezing spell looming, bringing with it up to six inches of snow by the end of January.
