A mental health nurse from Scotland has been found guilty of assaulting a man in a nightclub brawl, facing potential job loss as a consequence of her actions. Rebecca Frew, aged 29, engaged in an altercation with Craig Munn at Kong nightclub in Glasgow city centre on October 14, 2023.
The incident began when Frew slapped Mr. Munn, who was at the nightclub with friends after attending a Rangers fan event. This initial altercation escalated into a larger fight, resulting in Frew’s friend Andrew Chalmers being hospitalized after being struck repeatedly on the head by a bystander, Steven Boulton.
Frew briefly left the nightclub with her injured friend but returned to retrieve her belongings. Upon her return, she struck Mr. Munn with her boot, causing a scratch on his head. The incident occurred four years after Frew claimed to have seen the face of her son’s deceased grandfather in a baby scan picture, considering him their son’s “guardian angel.”
At Glasgow Sheriff Court, Frew was found guilty of two assault charges against Mr. Munn, including one causing injury. Boulton, who also assaulted Mr. Chalmers, pleaded guilty before trial and awaits sentencing next month.
CCTV footage presented during the trial showed Frew hitting Mr. Munn twice, first with an open hand and then with her boot heel. Frew defended herself by claiming Mr. Munn had made negative remarks provoking her actions, which the prosecution disputed.
Sheriff Diana McConnell, in convicting Frew, deemed Mr. Munn a credible witness and rejected Frew’s claims of provocation. Frew’s attorney requested a deferred conviction for an absolute discharge, allowing her to avoid a criminal record, a request granted pending further deliberation.
