Home Bargains tease cafe plan as shop takeover progresses

Home Bargains Teases Cafe Plan as Store Takeover Progresses

Home Bargains, the popular variety retailer, is making significant strides in taking over the former Matalan store in Ayr. The company owners, TJ Morris Ltd, based in Liverpool, have submitted applications for five ‘Home Bargains’ signs to be displayed around the vacant store, following Matalan’s departure last year.

In an unexpected move, one of the signs hints at a potential cafe within Home Bargains, potentially adding a new dimension to the retailer’s offerings on Parkhouse Street. Currently, Home Bargains only operates one other cafe in its Scottish stores, situated in Livingston, with a total of 19 cafes across the UK.

The signs also highlight the option for online shopping and home delivery, showcasing the retailer’s commitment to providing convenient shopping options for customers. The planning application, which includes proposed signs, graphics, and illumination, is currently awaiting consideration by the South Ayrshire Council, with a decision expected in mid-March.

Last February, Ayrshire Live exclusively reported on Home Bargains’ plans to occupy the Matalan site after Matalan failed to secure a new lease. Subsequently, TJ Morris Ltd, the site owners, received approval for external alterations to the unit and is now seeking permission for the signage installation.

With an existing presence in Ayr at Heathfield Retail Park, Home Bargains aims to expand its reach and offerings with the new location in Ayr. The potential addition of a cafe could further enhance the shopping experience for customers in the area. The company’s emphasis on online shopping and home delivery reflects the evolving retail landscape and changing consumer preferences.

In summary, Home Bargains’ upcoming takeover of the former Matalan store in Ayr promises exciting developments, including the possibility of a new cafe and enhanced shopping options for local residents. With a focus on convenience and customer experience, the retailer is poised to redefine retail offerings in the area.
