In response to this crisis, Robert Ryan, who has been a devoted supporter of Dumbarton for over fifty years, decided to use his musical talents to support the club. His song, ‘Stand Up For The Sons!’, is now available for download at £3, and the proceeds (excluding expenses) will directly contribute to securing the club’s future beyond the current season.
The fundraising efforts do not stop there, as the song’s earnings will be directed towards the club’s ‘Save our Sons’ (SOS) campaign on Go Fund Me. The initiative initially aimed to raise £100,000 but has surpassed that goal, with donations exceeding £103,000. The new target is set at £130,000, showcasing the community’s strong support for the beloved club.
In an interview with the Lennox Herald, Robert expressed his motivation behind the song, stating, “When I first heard about the administration, like many supporters, I thought ‘what can I do to help?’. As a songwriter, I had an idea to write a song.” He collaborated with musicians and a recording studio to bring his vision to life, with the song receiving airtime on BBC Radio Scotland and Off The Ball.
Robert hopes that his initiative will inspire others to support Dumbarton FC in their time of need.
